We will spend the day on Idis mountain, or Psiloritis, reliving its history, exploring the natural environment, getting to know the way of living of the locals.
We begin with the archaeological site of Tilisos –the villas there date from the Early Bronze Age, Minoan times. Later, we ascend the Nida plateau (1400m altitude) and cross the old path to Idaion Andron cave, a rarely visited ancient place of worship, associated with Zeus’ birth and upbringing place. In Nida we will see the local shepherds’ residences, the so called “mitata”, which constitute a unique element of the Cretan architecture.
Later we will visit Anogeia, a village known for its proud, yet hospitable inhabitants whose heroic deeds and puissant resistance to invaders became legendary with the lapse of time. Here, we will indulge a skewered lamb meal done the local way.
