Crete lends itself to a number of adventures apart from the touristic path. This is one of them.
Arhanes, on the first stop, a village situated in the green valleys on the south of Heraklion. We will visit the local Museum of Minoan Archaeology and enjoy a coffee break in the village square.
Carrying on to Peza valley a Mecca of quality wines for centuries on end, we will stop by at the Peza Winery and watch an informative film on wine and raki production which we will consequently taste.
Lunch will be served in Myrtia village, the famous author’s Nikos Kazantzakis hometown.
Next is Thrapsano, a village renowned for its potters. Nikos, a local ceramist will demonstrate his skills on the pottery wheel.
Our last stop will be at Agarathos monastery, desecrated to the Assumption of Mary. Being one of the oldest monastery in the region –perhaps built in 1532- Agarathos was a knowledge centre during the Venetian rule; several academics and priests graduated here.
